This week, The Blogger Programme look into how influencers are changing the entertainment industry. In recent months, we have turned on the TV to see YouTube star Joe Sugg dancing the waltz on Strictly Come Dancing, move to Radio 1 and we hear YouTube twins Niki and Sammy discuss pick up lines, and we can also catch up on Tanya Burr's beauty interview over on ITV's This Morning. As you can see, influencers are being welcomed into the entertainment industry much more frequently, and this is all down to their relatability to consumers.
Increasingly, influencers are transitioning into television from their social media platforms, with recent examples including Jack Maynard on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Alfie Deyes on The Crystal Maze and Alexis Ren on Dancing with the Stars. The entertainment industry is one of many who have had to adapt to the needs of millennials because of the change in viewing habits. Millenials are no longer tuning into live TV because they have access to catch up and streaming sites, and they are no longer listening to live radio because of streaming services and podcasts.
The BBC is a perfect example of a broadcaster who has collaborated with influencers on various channels to retain and reach a new audience. Niki and Sammy's Peachy Podcast invites their 200,000 followers to listen to them on the platform, while Joe Sugg is also set to encourage over five million millennials to leave their laptops in their room and tune in for some old-fashioned family time in front of the box watching Strictly.
