Also stay tuned till the end to watch Primrose answer our fun quick-fire questions over lunch!
1. Tell us a bit about you. When did you begin blogging and why?
Style Petal turned 3 in July, but I’ve had many (very bad ;) ) blogs in previous years - I’ve been reading them avidly since I was 12/13 so have always enjoyed discovering new ones, reading my faves and watching the industry grow! 3 years ago I was reading Elle and it suddenly clicked that I love street style and was already sharing my daily outfits on Instagram, so it made sense to start my blog around that - what I wear. Before I never knew what it was a wanted to blog about, but eventually I started to get ideas and it just grew from there! I now want it to represent a multi desintational platform that a variety of people can relate to, which is why I like to incorporate other areas of life too - skincare, beauty, lifestyle, health and travel!
2. It’s been exactly 3 years since you started your blog - congratulations! What was the inspiration behind your blog name - Style Petal?
Ahh thank you! I’ve been creating little websites for fun ever since I was in primary school - my dad works with computers so I’ve always been a bit of a geek - I love coming up with a concept and seeing it come to life! A way I used to name these sites was thinking about what the content was - what was it about and then make that relevant to you and your own little brand! I knew my blog was going to be predominantly style based, so naturally that was going to be somewhere within the name. Petal came because a few people call me that because of my name - Primrose - and also because its kind of metaphoric - I wanted my blog to have a few other topics - to be able to have the potential to blossom into other things, have a few petals to the flower if you know what I mean ;) It just stuck and feel like it represents everything I want it to.
3. What is a typical day like for you?
Every day is so different! I do also act, so sometimes when I have a busy week, early mornings or castings my blog takes a back seat for a day or two - which actually really helps me gain perspective on things, especially if I’m in need of new inspiration and ideas! I normally work from home most days of the week - emails, writing, filming, shooting and then 2-3 days a week are spent in London for meetings and events. I try to keep it to 3 days maximum in London as I usually pack them full, meaning I can’t get any work done on these days, so when I’m home that’s when all the creative juices get flowing!
4. How would you describe your style and who/what influences your style?
I’d say my style is definitely very laid back, effortless, minimalist and classic. I love trends but don’t fall for them immediately, I love timeless pieces - theres nothing more heartbreaking than buying a piece that you fall out of love with a month later! Fast fashion is fun, but I like to look back at pieces I still wear 6 years later and remember the fun times I had in them and all the fun times to come! I’ve always had a strong sense of what I like and don’t like in terms of what I want to wear, so that’s kind of how I get dressed in the morning! I wear what I love and what makes me happy!
5. What’s one item from your wardrobe that you couldn’t live without?
A killer pair of jeans! So cliche but so true - find a pair that make you feel like you can take over the world and don’t settle for anything less! It’s like magic - slip them on and you instantly feel incredible and like anything is possible!
6. Tell us a fun fact about you that not many people may know
Ohh that’s a tricky one - weird facts but I’m very good at accents and can do a killer Duffy impression at karaoke haha!
7. What advice would you give to brands/agencies who are looking to collaborate with influencers like yourself?
Find someone who’s truly excited, inspired and passionate about your brand and settle for nothing less. Ideas and concepts come so naturally and easily when you believe in something! When I’m obsessed with a product or piece, I will instantly be inspired and think of a thousand ways I can show people how awesome it is! Not everyone will like everything in life and not every blogger will be right for your brand - and that’s okay, because they’ll be right for someone else! Find people you believe in and get excited by!
8. What has been your favourite brand collaboration to date and why?
I don’t think I could pin point one - I think I’ve enjoyed pretty much every collab! They’re all so different and you work with and meet so many different, amazing people! It’s amazing to work on something you really believe in, represent something you’re proud of and create something beautiful and see it come to life - see people interact, relate, get inspired!
9. We love the ‘Blogging Tips’ category on your blog! What’s your number 1 tip for those thinking of stepping into the blogging industry?
Ohh thank you! I definitely need to write a few more - but I want people to know that blogging is so personal to the individual, you can’t compare yourself to others and their progress. I can advise as best as I can from what I’ve learned but it’s still such a thing of self discovery. Stop thinking about starting it and do it. Stop dreaming of what your blog will look like and what you’ll write and just do it! It’s a never ending journey, you’re never going to be pleased with the end result because there is no end result, it’s forever changing and evolving and that’s whats so awesome!
10. What are your plans for the future?
Oh gosh, truly I have no idea haha! I guess I’m quite relaxed, mainly because I guess 3 years ago I didn’t anticipate that blogging would be my career, so I’ve kind of never set myself strict goals and achievements, rather just gone with the flow! I just try and live life how I want and how makes me happy. Right now I’m just enjoying every day, what it brings and soaking up spending some time in such a fab, fast paced city! it’s a far cry from where I came from and I’m loving every second, the world is such an amazing, big place full of interesting people!
