This week's segment of TBP Insiders, we caught up with fashion babe, chic jetsetter and TBP Talent member – Emma Spencer. From Emma’s style inspirations to her favourite travel destinations – Keep reading to find out what she had to say!
1. Tell us a bit about you. When did you begin blogging and why?
I had always wanted to start a blog as I loved sharing my fashion tips and advice with friends and family, as well as my travel adventures – I never used to shut up about the trips I had been on! I had all these experiences to share but needed a platform to speak to a wider audience, and so my friends and family could have a break from me talking about where to eat in Italy!
Having worked with lots of bloggers during my PR days, I thought to myself, hey I so could do this! It gave me the experience to understand how to work as a blogger, and gave me insider tips on how brands and PRs collaborate with bloggers – which was fantastic to know!
It wasn’t until I had left Australia to travel around Asia and move to the UK, that I had the confidence to start a blog. I was so inspired by being in a new environment and I stopped overthinking, and decided to give blogging a go!
I first started with Instagram, and then developed The Emasphere from there, and I haven’t looked back! I focus on a mix of fashion, travel and lifestyle, and love every bit of it!
2. What is a typical day like for you?
Each day is different, but I generally wake up and do some yoga around 6am, then have breakfast and sit down to check my emails and social channels.
Then I’m writing a new blog post; editing pictures/videos; promoting blog posts through my social channels; posting images on Instagram; styling outfits for upcoming photoshoots; planning content; the list goes on!
Some days I’m out for photoshoots, and other days I’m heading to London for events and meetings.
So much variety day by day, but I love it!
3. How would you describe your style and who/what influences your style?
Creative, cool, unique and slightly unpolished, with a little bit of pretty and a touch of Parisian.
I find inspiration from lots of places! I read magazines, such a Vogue, and I’m always on websites such as WhoWhatWear.com, Popsugar.com, CNTraveller.com and Goop.com.
I visit online stores to check out the new-in pieces and their new campaigns, and see if I can create a post around an item or style. I also love to physically walk around stores to suss out the trends, colour schemes, materials etc.
Being in a new environment and travelling to new cities and countries always inspires me too!
4. What’s one item from your wardrobe that you couldn’t live without?
Oooo gosh that’s a hard one! I would say my YSL Monogram bag is my most cherished piece. It was my first designer handbag, so it means a lot to me!
5. As well as being the ultimate fashion babe, you’ve also covered dreamy travel content online. What’s your favourite place that you’ve visited and why?
Oh thank you!!! My favourite place is Italy, I just love everything about it! The food, the wine, the Tuscan countryside, the gelato (of course), the people, the architecture, the language – everything!
I also have a massive soft spot for Vietnam, especially Hoi An. It’s an ancient UNESCO village, and it’s so cute! I’m dying to go back there!
6. We absolutely love your recent Insta outfit videos! What inspired you to create these and would you ever venture into the world of YouTube?
I’m so happy you like the Insta outfit videos – thank you so much! I just wanted to do something a little different. I love creating stories about what I’m wearing and I think you can really do that with video. It’s also a fantastic way to bring the outfit or item of clothing to life – see how it moves, how it fits, etc etc.
I’m so excited to announce I’ve just launched YouTube, yay!! I’ve only filmed short outfit and travel videos so far (similar to my Insta videos), but longer ones will be coming soon – watch this space!
7. What advice would you give to brands who are looking to collaborate with influencers like yourself?
Get to know the influencer before you contact them. Read their blog, check out their images on Instagram, watch their videos. Ensure your brand will really connect with the influencer, and understand that a blogger’s blog/channel is more than often not just a hobby, but their actual business.
8. What has been your favourite brand collaboration to date and why?
I worked with Jet2 and Visit Benidorm to experience and create content about the alternative side of Bendiorm. I spent a few days in Benidorm where we stayed at a lush resort, ate at fine restaurants and participated in activities such as jet skiing and scuba diving. This was such an amazing experience for me as I had never been to Spain before, and the opportunities to create amazing content were endless!
9. Do you have any tips or advice for those thinking of starting a blog?
Work out your niche - something different that makes you stand out. Do what comes naturally to you, embrace your individuality and be confident in yourself!
10. What are your plans for the future?
Blog wise - I’m planning to implement even more travel posts to The Emasphere, so I’d love to work on collaborations where I’m travelling around the world, reviewing hotels and sharing with my readers my take on certain cities. I’d also love to team up with designer brands…Gucci and Chanel, my call is waiting! ;)
My other plans - I’d love to get into TV presenting and acting, as well as developing my own fashion brand. I’m quite business minded, so I love to get my girl boss on and plan what I can do! As they say, the world is your oyster!
